The best that humanity managed to invent in the pool cleaning industry is robotic cleaning assistants. These compact and smart devices suit any inground pool, from the smallest with bizarre construction to the largest. The market offers us thousands of options, but there is hardly a more efficient way to keep your swimming reservoir fresh and safe than to get some of Dolphin or Polaris products. That’s where Dolphin vs Polaris battle starts.

Read these Forum’s Topics about Dolphin and Polaris

At the moment, brands share the pedestal, offering an extremelly close set of functions and technologies for similar money. So, how can we choose one suitable option for us? And what to rely upon during our search? Let’s find it out together.

Dolphin or Polaris Brand Comparison

maytronics dolphin
Though we traditionally call Dolphin a brand, it is a branch of Maytronics corporation occupied in pool equipment production. Maytronics and Dolphin started their history in 1983 when their engineers launched the first domestic and commercial robotic pool cleaner under the Dolphin name.

Since that time, the company successfully provides luxurious quality at affordable prices. Dolphin cleaners are compatible with all pools and suitable for all customers. Annual innovations support the title of the pool cleaning pioneer. That’s why millions of people all over the world choose Dolphin.

Polaris zodiac
By analogy, Polaris also started as a part of the Zodiac brand established in 1909. At that date, this European company produced inflatable products, boats mostly. Later, Zodiac entered the international market with headquarters located all over the world. By 1994, it launched the production of its first electric pool cleaners.

In 2018, Zodiac merged with Fluidra. Thus, Polaris counts over a century history. Its pool cleaners catch up with the most expensive brands. Customers love their durability and the wide range of models. The combination allows it to become the best-selling manufacturer on the market.

Anyway, one should remember that though robotic pool cleaners are the best (especially for large pools), they cost a lot. That’s why experts recommend performing a thorough investigation beforehand to pick up an optimal model.

Luckily, we did it for you. Today, we’ll try to reveal all Dolphin and Polaris cleaners’ pros and cons to help you make the best purchase for your requirements and budget.

Main Differences

In any event, all robotic pool cleaners should operate according to certain rules and use technologies obligatory for such smart devices. But each brand tends to its functional preferences that will influence cleaners’ performance and your product choice.

Without further ado, let’s briefly discuss the most important differences between the Dolphin and Polaris brands:

  • Maytronics Dolphin produces universal cleaners that suit all pool types, i.e., both above ground and in-ground pools. Polaris makes robotic devices only for in-ground pools.
  • Dolphin is the most environment-friendly brand as its cleaners are incredibly energy-saving compared to regular robotic cleaners, including Polaris.
  • However, Polaris pays special attention to suction maintenance. That’s why its models feature larger suction ports and better suction support, thanks to additional technologies (like Vortex Vacuum). Thus, the Polaris brand deals with larger debris.
  • Dolphin equips its cleaners with non-slippery tracks. Polaris prefers traditional wheels.
  • Dolphin manages to produce very lightweight pool assistants. Besides, it complements them with the quick water release system.
  • Unfortunately, Polaris doesn’t think that much about cleaners’ weight and ease of use.
  • But Polaris is a more generous brand in terms of accessories. It includes transport caddies to all kits, while Dolphin doesn’t.
  • Dolphin offers several filter options, so users can choose the best for their needs. Polaris equips all its cleaners with the same filter canister, and you have no options.
  • Dolphin scrubbers can adjust the rotation speed depending on the pollution. Polaris brushes work in one tempo.
  • Though, in general, Polaris set quite affordable prices for its products, the robotic series is more expensive than the Dolphin’s one.

WHY DOLPHIN?

Once again, Dolphin is the best option for those who’re looking for multi-purpose pool cleaners that suit above ground and in-ground reservoirs.

The model rank can satisfy every customer, even ones longing for smart innovations. All products feature unique energy-saving motors that require several times less electricity than regular cleaners. With that in mind, we still get fast, thorough cleaning and easy control.

1. Dolphin E10 Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

We start our Dolphin lineup with a basic robot cleaner Dolphin E10. Though it seems simpler compared with other Dolphins, you’ll be amazed by its «basic» functions.

The E10 is designed to fit all pools both above and in-ground. This universal device comes with a 40ft non-swivel cable, so we recommend choosing it for pools under 30 ft.

Cleaning surfaces includes the bottom only. Dolphin E10 cannot climb walls and waterline. However, the bottom cleaning is more than efficient thanks to the CleverClean sensor navigation and Obstacle Escape System. The vac finds debris and avoids common pool obstacles.

The robot collects dirt with high-efficiency scrubbers. They provide good adhesion and can even increase rotation speed on the dirtiest spots. Debris comes into a top load filter basket. This unit holds dirt from the whole pool and is easy to empty/clean.

important

With Dolphin E10, one cleaning cycle will take 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, we cannot customize cleaning time or schedule operations. No app control is provided either. That’s why the cleaner is called simple. However, users get a nice touch screen for basic remote control, which is enough for most people.

verdict

The model is perfect for all customers with medium-sized pools. It won’t suit large reservoirs because of a cable length limit, non-swivel design, and no walls and waterline cleaning. But it’s your option if you’d like to pay for smart navigation and cleaning efficiency without investing in excessive «high-tech toy» specs.

Pros
  • perfect for medium-sized pools
  • universal model suitable for above ground and in-ground pools
  • no booster pumps and hoses required
  • dual scrubbers with double speed rotation
  • CleverClean navigation with Obstacle Escape System
  • a simple touch screen for remote control included
  • fast 1.5 hours cleaning cycle
  • spacious, easy-emptying top-load basket
  • the quick water release system
Cons
  • no walls and waterline cleaning
  • no swivel and tangle-free cable
  • no cleaning customization and app control
  • heavy

2. Dolphin Escape Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

Dolphin Escape repeats the majority of characteristics seen in the E10 model. It is developed for above ground pools but also suits in-ground reservoirs up to 30 ft. Its power is still enough for bottom cleaning only, while walls and waterline are unavailable.

We also note the same anti-slippery dual rubber scrubbers, 1.5-hour cleaning cycle, a familiar non-swivel 40 ft cable, top load basket filter, the water release system.

While the basis stayed unchanged, the cleaner boasts improved motor, energy consumption, and navigation. Dolphin Escape has a new dual 24 Volt DC motor that needs only 180 watts. The system requires up to 90% less energy compared with regular pool cleaners.

The robot orientates in your pool thanks to the SmartNav 2.0 navigation. In a word, it scans the surface, determines obstacles and the dirtiest areas, builds a route, and activates pre-programmed moving algorithms.

But unfortunately, for some reason, engineers deprived us of a touch screen. Thus, the unit offers no remote control, not to mention the app compatibility.

verdict

Smart navigation in combination with other high-tech tips will cost you slightly over. Yes, Dolphin Escape is not the best in terms of controlling and programming comfort. Still, we note efficient and straightforward operation. It’s a nice purchase for eco-friendly users who care about the environment and their electricity bills. We also recommend it as a quite lightweight model for senior users (a quick water release system, thank you).

Pros
  • for medium-sized pools
  • both for above ground and in-ground pools
  • no pumps or hoses required
  • improved energy-saving motors with 90% less consumption
  • dual 2x speed scrubbing
  • anti-slippery tracks
  • SmartNav 2.0 navigation
  • 1.5 hours of cleaning cycle
  • big top-load filter basket
  • water release system
  • lightweight body
Cons
  • no walls and waterline cleaning
  • no swivel and tangle-free cable
  • no remote control and app support

3. Dolphin Nautilus CC Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

If you own a bigger pool and like the Dolphin devices, try the Nautilus CC modification. It comes with a longer (but still non-swivel) 50 ft cord, which makes it suitable for above ground and in-ground pools up to 33 ft and even more.

In general, the Nautilus series boasts of improved cleaning function. This time, robots can process not only the floor but also climb the walls. The waterline is still out of range.

Increased pool size requires more time, and now cleaning takes 2 hours. Moreover, users finally can set the cleaning schedule for the whole week choosing between three options – to clean every day, every other day, or every third day.

Scheduling goes through the touch screen. Also use it to start/stop your device or set the energy-saving mode. App control is not supported.

The Nautilus CC applies our familiar CleverClean technology, which is reflected in the CC letters in the name. The cleaner scans the pool and creates the most suitable cleaning route.

When it comes to cleaning itself, the robot uses one scrubber to eliminate dirt and algae and filter water with a top-load filter basket.

verdict

Dolphin Nautilus CC costs almost like the Escape model. But for the money, you get improved cleaning on larger areas, scheduling, and easier control. Thus, we recommend it for those who have a limited budget but want maximum results with minimum effort and manual robot control.

Pros
  • universal model for above ground and in-ground pools
  • suits for bigger reservoirs
  • cleans floor and walls
  • a more thorough 2-hour cleaning cycle
  • weekly cleaning schedule with three options
  • no booster pumps and hoses required
  • one scrubber with double speed rotation
  • CleverClean navigation
  • a touch screen for remote control included
  • a top-load basket
  • the quick water release system
  • longer cord
  • lightweight
Cons
  • no waterline cleaning
  • no swivel and tangle-free cable
  • no app control

4. Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus doesn’t solve all problems of the previous Nautilus CC cleaner, but it’s justly called a more innovative modification. Among its best features, we distinguish finer filtration, scrubbers, and cord.

The robot collects debris with two scrubbers and sends it to a double filter cartridge. The cartridge system is less capacious compared with our usual baskets, but it provides more thorough water filtration.

This unit works in large in-ground pools up to 50 ft, but if you have a smaller above ground product, it will suit you too. Moreover, even in smaller pools, your 60 ft cord won’t tangle, thanks to its improved tangle-free floating design.

Cleaning zones traditionally include the bottom and walls. Even in the largest pools of the most complicated shape, cleaning will take 2 hours maximum. We should thank CleverClean technology for this.

When it comes to controlling, engineers saved such a useful scheduling function as well as basic remote controlling through the touch screen.

But, for some reason, they removed the water release system, which is a great loss, especially for senior users and people with back problems.

verdict

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus is not a budget model. We pay for a more thorough cleaning, so if you’re looking for super cleanliness, this unit is for you. However, for us, the price difference between the CC and the CC Plus products seems to be unjust regarding the functional changes.

Pros
  • made for large in-ground pools but also suits above ground pools
  • cleans the floor and climbs walls
  • a 2-hour cleaning cycle
  • dual scrubbers
  • more thorough top-load dual cartridge filter
  • weekly cleaning schedule with three options
  • no booster pumps and hoses required
  • CleverClean navigation
  • a touch screen for remote control included
  • tangle-free floating cord
  • lightweight
Cons
  • expensive
  • no waterline cleaning
  • no water release system
  • no app control

5. Dolphin Premier Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

Dolphin Premier ensures the most thorough pool cleaning as this is the only cleaner in our Dolphin collection that climbs both walls and waterline.

Even the largest 50 ft in-ground pools stay perfectly clean. And this time, the manufacturer pays special attention both to surface and water cleaning. The model comes with as many as three filter options: bottom-load fine cartridge filters, ultra-fine cartridge filters, and an oversized fine filter bag. Users can replace the units depending on the pollution degree, water state, and current needs.

Moreover, there is a full filter indicator to help us empty filters only when necessary.

Cleaning takes 3 hours in this model since it processes all surfaces and water more thoroughly with dual rubber scrubbers.
Premier works in the largest pools, never getting lost, missing spots, or tangling. That’s possible thanks to the CleverClean scanning+algorithms and a 60 ft tangle-free swivel cord.

Despite the ultimate performance, Dolphin Premier is 90% more energy-efficient than regular cleaners. Engineers equip it with a twin DC motor we’ve seen in the Escape device.

The top-level quality means an obligatory week schedule and easy control via a touch screen. Besides, here users can get an optional handheld remote control that offers the same control functions but is smaller and more convenient.

verdict

If you choose this robot pool cleaner, you’ll have to sacrifice app controlling and water release. And please mind that the unit is pretty heavy. But with this assistant, you get a perfectly clean pool surface and water with tiny energy expenses.

Pros
  • for the largest in-ground pools and above ground pools
  • cleans every corner from the floor to walls and waterline
  • twin DC motor for 90% less energy consumption

  • a touch screen for remote control included
  • optional handheld remote control
  • tangle-free swivel cord
Cons
  • expensive
  • long cleaning cycle
  • no water release system
  • heavy
  • no app control

1. Polaris P825 Sport Robotic Pool Cleaner

Polaris P825 is a multi-colored cleaner for cleaning inground pools up to 40 ft. in size with all surfaces. It has two cleaning modes – floor and floor/walls. The cleaning time for both cycles is only 1.5 hours. To clean better, you can choose between four wall cleaning surface settings – from rough to smooth surfaces. The cleaner can clean up to a waterline depending on the correct settings: 1-pebble surface, 2-concrete, 3- vinyl/fiberglass, 4 – Tile. This Polaris model has truck wheels moved from three wheels to ensure better climbing to clean the walls and stairs.

This model has no smartphone app control function, only with the cleaner control unit. The unit has three control buttons to select a cleaning surface, start/stop a cleaner, and surface control system. To remove the cleaner from the water, you need to pull it to the wall within the arm’s reach using the cable and lift it using the handle. You need to hold it vertically for a while to drain the water.

The P825 has front and rear rubber brushes that direct debris to the oversized filter window with the force of cyclonic vacuum suction. This technology ensures no suction loss. All debris is securely stored in a 4L filter canister. After each cleaning cycle, the canister should be cleaned as there is no dirty canister indicator. If you press the button on top, it releases the filter canister handle. Then, you need to press the latches and remove the canister lid. Only tap water is required to clean the canister.

An easy-assemble caddy is included in the package for transportation and storage. You do not need any tools for assembly. There is a place for the cleaner on the bottom shelf and an installation place for the control unit.

verdict

This budget cleaner is good for walls and wall cleaning. Even though the Polaris P825 does not have a swivel device, you need to insert the cleaner in the middle of the longest wall to prevent tangling.

Pros
  • transparent canister lid
  • premium caddy for storage and transportation is included
  • Cyclonic Vacuum Technology
  • Push and Go Filter Canister
  • four settings of surface control
  • 50 ft. non-swivel cable
  • quick cleaning cycles (less than 1.5 hours)
  • easily collects large debris
  • suitable for all pool surfaces
  • two quick cleaning cycles
  • quick water release
Cons
  • only for inground pools
  • no easy lift removal
  • no dirty canister indicator
  • no app control
  • no swivel cable
  • no waterline cleaning

2. Polaris F9450 Sport Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

The next generation, Polaris F9450, was gifted with a lighter body, improved maneuverability, and greater programming qualities. But let’s discuss it all in order.

The model still suits 50ft in-ground pools and can reach even the farthest corners thanks to a 60 ft cord that is swivel now. And ActivMotion Sensor navigation will help to orientate and cover each spot.

Cleaning zones traditionally include floor (this mode takes 1.5 hours) and floor & walls (here, we need 2.5 hours). Neither dual scrubber nor suction characteristics with water propulsion have changed. But the Vortex Vacuum offers a larger suction intake that contributes to the clog-free cleaning.

The manufacturer also significantly enlarged the top filter canister to hold more dirt.
Bot’s maneuverability now becomes better as the F9450 model has all four wheels powered. Thus, even if it got stuck, 4WD technology and new Aqua-Trac tires will solve this problem without your participation.

Control panel can boast one more extremely useful feature called a 7-day programmable timer. Users are free to set the exact day and time of pool cleaning for a whole week.

Engineers kept a transport caddy and Easy Lift System though Polaris F9450 feels much lighter – a great pro for senior customers and other people who need minimal loads.

verdict

Though the device is made to deal with more pollutions, it consumes up to 90% less energy than previous Polaris cleaners. Intelligent scheduling and better suction are other reasons to purchase this improved Polaris model.

Pros
  • made for in-ground pools up to 50ft
  • cleans floor or floor & walls
  • the enlarged suction port of the Vortex Vacuum Technology helps sustain higher suction with no clogs

  • non-random ActivMotion Sensor navigation
  • swivel cord never tangles or disturbs cleaning
  • 7-day cleaning schedule
  • touch screen for remote control
  • Easy Lift System
  • lighter body
  • 90% more energy-efficient compared to regular pool cleaners
  • need no extra pumps and filters
Cons
  • expensive
  • not suitable for above ground pools
  • no waterline cleaning
  • no app control

3. Polaris F9550 Sport Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

Polaris F9550 Sport is a recognized robot pool cleaner capable of processing all surfaces, including the waterline in in-ground pools up to 60ft. Consequently, the swivel cord became 10ft longer, forming 70ft.

Moreover, though it now collects even more dirt, a filter canister can hold it all and informs you when it’s time to empty. The F9550 is the first Polaris robotic pool cleaner equipped with a canister indicator.

Another reason to purchase this product is a smaller, handheld remote control. The bot is also compatible with any of the IntelliTouch, EasyTouch and SunTouch remote control systems.

The manufacturer continues the lineup with a 7-day schedule. So with this pool assistant, you can customize cleaning for a week.

All other characteristics grew from the F9450 Sport. Once again, we note improved 4WD with Aqua-Trax tires for all pool surfaces and ActivMotion Sensor navigation. Cleaning goes with the help of two scrubbers, propulsion and Vortex Vacuum systems for constant suction.

Cleaner kept Easy Lift System and transport caddy though became much heavier.

verdict

All in all, one cannot call the innovations to be revolutionary or smart. But we pay here for improved cleaning performance. That’s why pick up the pool cleaner if you have a super large pool with impressive pollutions. Polaris F9550 will make sure every inch of your reservoir, including the waterline, will be crystal clear.

Pros

  • longer swivel cord
  • 7-day cleaning schedule
  • touch screen for remote control
  • handheld remote supported
  • Easy Lift System
  • need no extra pumps and filters
Cons
  • expensive
  • not suitable for above ground pools
  • no app control
  • heavy

4. Polaris 9650IQ Sport Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner

At the moment, Polaris 9650IQ Sport can be justly called the most innovative brand robotic pool cleaner. While its basic characteristics completely coincide with those seen in the Sport F9550 model, we note one essential improvement.

The cleaner supports Wi-Fi iAquaLink app. Users are no longer tied to the control panel. The IQ device allows you to customize cleaning, start and stop it, and access the bot from everywhere using a smartphone only.

When it comes to cleaning efficiency, it is as perfect as the F9550 cleaner. Let us just briefly mention that the model works with in-ground pools up to 60ft, processes floors, walls and waterline with dual scrubbers, and activates water propulsion to remove dirt in inconvenient areas.

It collects dirt in a filter canister with a full indicator. Navigation, driving, programming, Lift system stay the same.

In a word, Polaris F9650IQ Sport comes very close to perfection. The model managed to collect all advantages of the previous generations and complement them with such a handy app control. The only drawbacks are a high price and heavy body.

verdict

We recommend Polaris F9650IQ Sport to customers with no budget limitations who have no time on manual bot programming.

  • expensive
  • not suitable for above ground pools
  • heavy

5. Polaris VRX iQ+ Smart Robotic Pool Cleaner

Polaris VRX iQ+ is a modern, lightweight white pool robotic cleaner with the latest industry technologies for all shapes and surfaces of inground pools. It has a 70 ft. tangle-reducing swivel cable for effortless cleaners. Nevertheless, it is still recommended to submerge the robot in the middle of the pool and not use extension cords. It utilizes superior Vortex vacuum technology, which allows the collection of all sizes of debris into a 5 L extra-large canister under a transparent lid.

Polaris VRX iQ+ has an extraordinary deliberate navigation system based on sensors. It checks the pool material, scans and measures the pool, and adjusts and adapts to the water depth and temperature to calculate the optimal effective cleaning time of the entire pool.

There are two possible control options: using the control box and a smartphone. With the control box, you can start basic cleaning and set Wi-Fi for connection to the smartphone app. It has a full-featured app control from anytime and anywhere; you can schedule cleaning cycles, check pool water temperature and canister status, choose cleaning mode, start or pause cleaning, or ask the cleaner to come to the wall and start the lifting process. You can even perform targeted spot cleaning using an interactive joystick in the app.

To take the robot out of the water, you need to activate the Patented Easy Lift Removal System in the app at any time during a cleaning cycle. The cleaner will come to the wall which you have chosen for retrieval and, after the press of a button, will come to the waterline. The handle on the top is used to grab the cleaner out from the water.

How They Stack Up

Some models are especially popular among pool owners. But their similarity or, on the contrary, differences make it more difficult for customers to choose one pool cleaner. Here, we’d like to perform a short comparison of such the most confusing couples.

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus versus Polaris 9550 Sport

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus vs Polaris 9550 Sport
The big advantage of the Nautilus CC Plus is its universal design that suits any pool up to 50ft. The unit thoroughly processes the floor and walls and eliminates the smallest dirt particles thanks to super-fine double cartridge filtration. We recommend it as a more affordable and multi-functional device for crystal water.

However, in this battle, the latter conquers by wider cleaning zones, including waterline. Though filtration is not that thorough, its canister holds more pollution and even notifies us when it’s full. Also, the whole control is easier thanks to a handheld remote. The final Polaris bot pro is its improved Vortex Vacuum corner cleaning.

We recommend Polaris F9550 Sport for owners of super-big in-ground pools who often face heavy debris and want to clean every inch of their reservoir, even in awkward areas.

important

Winner: Though Polaris 9550 is more expensive and suits only in-ground pools, we’d prefer this option because of the comprehensive floor, wall, and waterline cleaning, better suction, and easier maintenance.

Polaris 9550 Sport versus Dolphin Premier

Polaris 9550 Sport vs Dolphin Premier
Polaris 9550 vs Dolphin Premier is a much more challenging option as the devices are almost identical, especially in terms of price. Everything that was a pro in the previous comparison here becomes an ordinary thing. Now, in both cases, we see waterline processing, full filter indicators, handheld remote controls, spacious filters.

However, Dolphin Premier offers as many as three filters in one cleaner, which means you can customize the quality of filtration yourself. This is also a much more energy-efficient option as Premier will save you up to 90% more electricity.

Polaris F9550 still boasts better suction. Please also mind that it can clean large surfaces but in a shorter period of time.

important

Winner: This time, we’d prefer Dolphin Premier cleaner for its compatibility with both in-ground and above ground pools, excellent energy consumption, and filtration.

Dolphin E10 versus Dolphin Escape

Dolphin E10 vs Dolphin Escape
The earlier Maytronics robotic cleaners use the same technologies. The face-to-face comparison reflects few differences. So which one to choose?

Dolphin E10 captivates by simplicity, ease of operation and control through a touch screen, and affordable price. This is an excellent product for customers on a budget who own medium-sized pools and look for high performance with no extra functions.

Dolphin Escape lacks any remote control and costs more. But the money will return to you from significantly reduced electricity bills. The cleaner consumes 90% less energy. Also, it never missed dirt thanks to improved SmartNav 2.0 navigation that both determines obstacles and applies pre-programmed moving algorithms. Thus, though Escape performs the same cleaning tasks, we’d recommend it for pools with more complicated constructions (corners, stairs, hard-to-reach places) and super-saving.

important

Winner: Both Dolphins are simple robots for floor cleaning only with no scheduling and the like functions. But Dolphin Escape slightly wins due to better navigation and efficient motors.

Polaris P825 Sport versus Polaris 9450 Sport

Polaris P825 vs 9450
Here are one more budget robots produced by Polaris. Cleaners are made for the same inground pools but vary greatly in equipment. Is there a sense in saving and getting the simple Polaris P825, or is it better to invest an extra $100-$200 in the improved Polaris 9450?

Questions are disputable. Polaris P825 is definitely worth purchasing and will provide you with excellent cleaning quality of floors and walls. With truck wheels and the possibility to choose the pool surface, the robot can climb walls up to the waterline for cleaning. It’s the best and the most affordable option

However, Polaris 9450 wins due to improved swivel cord, better Aqua-Trac tires, and all 4 wheels driven. The cleaner can deals with more dirt as it has an enlarged suction port and filter canister. Finally, the unit supports a 7-day schedule.

  • We recommend it for busy users who have no time on daily manual On/Off and for those who worry about electricity bills – Polaris 9450 Sport consumes up to 90% less energy.
important

Winner: If your budget allows, pick up Polaris 9450 Sport for its schedule and saving qualities.

The pro version has a top-load extra-large basket and can clean a waterline. Meanwhile, Polaris 9650iQ, reviewed in this article, already has the possibility of a Wi-Fi connection. You can connect Polaris 9650iQ with your family network and start the cleaning cycle using Alexa.

How to take care of Dolphin Premier filters?

All Dolphin cartridge filters require cleaning after each cycle. The filter bag from Dolphin Premier should be periodically washed in a washing machine on a gentle cycle. It is recommended to use ultra-fine cartridge filters for everyday use and net filters for dirty pools beginning of the season and with large debris.

Conclusion

Now you know everything we know about Dolphin and Polaris robotic pool cleaners. Both brands allow all customers to find their optional products.

Owners of medium-sized in-ground pools who don’t want to spend too much on super technologies will be pleased with Dolphin E10 and Escape cleaning quality for relatively small money. They are also the best options for above ground pools.

Polaris P825 Sport and F9450 Sport are more expensive, but they can climb walls and offer better suction. We recommend these units if your pool has a complicated shape with lots of obstacles (stairs, decorative elements) or if water often gets polluted with large debris like leaves or sticks.

attention

Dolphin Nautilus CC, CC Plus and Polaris F9550 Sport are excellent golden mean cleaners. All feature a rather high price, but for the money, you get every function, including smart scheduling. Besides, they suit the largest pools and never get lost or tangled.

Dolphin Premier, Polaris VRX iQ+ Smart, and Polaris F9650IQ Sport are similar to the previous models. However, they are top devices. Here, you pay for ultimate performance (clean, even waterline), the widest kit (three filters in the Premier), and app control (in the IQ Sport and iQ+ Smart). They are not our favorites because, for us, the price is too high compared with the innovations offered. But lots of people are ready to invest in the best and latest technologies as well as the ultimate comfort of use. So, brands give us such an opportunity.

With any of these devices, you can be sure of your pool cleanliness and your time saved. Grab your model quicker and enjoy crystal clear water all year round!

  1. Hi could you do a direct comparison of the Dolphin Stigma and Polaris Vrt Iq+ ? Could you email me your opinion I’m waiting to see which one I want to buy.

I’m curious on your thoughts between those two?

    Thank you so much

    • Hello, Diane! Thank you very much for your trust and questions! This is an interesting comparison. We’ll do our best to purchase these cleaner models and review them in one of our future articles.

  2. Hi! Can I buy a Dolphin for a frame above ground pool?

    • Hello, Ben! Thank you very much for your question! Most Dolphins are developed for inground pools. However, you may try Dolphin E10? which is suitable for rigid above ground pools.

  3. Hi everybody! Thanks for the comparison, pretty detailed. But I just want to mention that such widely advertised brands like these take pretty much to compensate ad expenses. I just don’t see the reason to pay for Dolphin when you can get a cheaper Chinese analog with the same characteristics (like AquaViva for ex.).

    • Hi, B.R.Q.! Thank you very much for your opinion! Indeed, the market is full of less known but more affordable models. However you should clearly understand that when you save on one thing, you’ll inevitably have to sacrifice something else. These brands are usually less powerful (which is a minus for large pool owners), sometimes have less attachements, and users may face difficulties with connection to pools as well as difficulties to find comsumables, etc. The models we examined above are more multifunctional and powerful. However, you’re absolutely right, the final choice completely depends on your needs and there can’t be one “perfect” answer for everybody)

  4. Which do you recommend more, the Dolphin M600 or Polaris Alpha IQ+? It would be for an inground pool with Pebble Sheen finish. Thank you.

    • Hi, Alec! Thank you very much for your question! In fact, these models belong to the same niche and offer very similar performance. Let us mention that they both suit inground pools with any covering. However, Polaris Alpha features a bit faster cleaning and boasts exclusive smart and adaptive cleaning through the app. If you have a large pool and some additional objects (like lights, spa points) we’d recommend choosing the Alpha IQ+. Dolphin M600 wins by its more attractive price for almost the same perfromance. Besides, its filter basket is a bit larger. So if you like smart app control, top level cleaning even with large debris but in the plain pool, Dolphin M600 is a more preferable option. And it’s your choice if you’d like to stay within strict budget. Hope you’ll find this information useful!

  5. Hi! I own Dolphin IQ. When I start cleaning from my phone, it turns on, moves for about 2-5 minutes and then stops completely. The problem appeared about a week ago. Perhaps someone faced the same trouble and can advise me what to do? Thank you so much!

    • Hi, Lana! Thank you very much for your question! Please try to start cleaning manually. If there is no problem in operation in that case, app connection will be the reason for errors. Then we’d recommend you reseting phone-WiFi-app connection. Hope you’ll find this helpful!

  6. I am looking for a recommendation between the Polaris Alpha IQ, Polaris 8642 Epic IQ, and Dolphin Premium Robotic. Not sure which would be the best option. Inground, 18×36. Our robot lives in the water (probably a bad habit)

Hi, Anthony! Thank you very much for your question! At the moment we’re working over the new Polaris comparisons and hope that we’ll be able to provide you with thorough Polaris Alpha vs Epic comparison in the near future. However, here is our brief opinion on these models.
The robots you’re interested in are very resembling as they occupy the top niche. The life proves that all high-tech gadgets of the latest generations usually share the same innovations. Anyway, Polaris Alpha IQ boasts Smart cycle navigation and exclusively adjusts to your pool features. This is a top personal addition if you have any “inconvenient” elements inside the pool (like lights or spa) or non-standard shape. Also, we like its huge canister (the hugest).
Polaris Epic IQ mostly offers the same functionality except for better brushes and Cyclonic debris suction. This model is a choice if you often face massive debris (leaves, aggressive algae, insects). But please mind a smaller canister.
With Dolphin Premium you’ll save about $200. It also has the same functions (WiFi/App control, big canister, waterline cleaning, schedule, etc.) but there is no extra innovative navigation or scrubbing or anything else.
Thus, we can offer the following “choose guide”: 1) choose the Alpha if you have non-standard pool shape/construction and need faster cleaning; 2) choose the Epic if you need more thorough cleaning; 3) choose the Premium if you need neither super-speed nor super-thoroughness but would like to get almost the same performance for better money. Hope you’ll find this info useful!
P.S. All robots suit you pool size and I think there is nothing bad in keeping your pool cleaner in the water (the manufacturers also allow for such storage).

  7. which is better Polaris vrxiq or dolphin sigma??

    • Hi, Linda Calvo! Sorry for the delay in responding and thank you for your question! Polaris VRX iQ is a deal for larger pools as it provides longer cable and faster cleaning cycle (while losing nothing in the quality). Dolphin Sigma is more available at the moment for almost identical performance (except for slightly slower cleaning and smaller dirtbin). That’s why at the moment we’d recommend choosing the Sigma or waiting for a couple of months for the VRX iQ price to drop.

  8. Hi Marcus! Which cable is better for my above-ground swimming pool swivel cable or not?

    • Hello Hebert! Thank you for your question! It is always recommended for all types of swimming pools to have a cleaner with tangle-free swivel cable. However, you may use non-swivel cables only for small pools. That is why in this comparison, look closely at models with swivel cables.

  9. Hi! I have a Polaris model with ActivMotion sensors. A month ago it began to miss some dirt spots. Can it be because the sensors got dirty? Do you need to clean them somehow? Thank you for help!

    • Thank you very much for your question! As far as we know, the manufacturer does not ask to clean ActivMotion sensor elements on purpose. Your robot’s navigation is supposed to work correctly on its on. However, if you face some problems, we can recommend you checking brush/roller elements (the problems are more frequent caused by them). Please also contact the user’s support service.

  10. I don’t have a garden hose near the swimming pool in my backyard. How can I clean the filters on my Polaris 9550 that I am going to buy?

    • Hello Marian! Thank you for your interest in Polaris 9550. The fine canister of Polaris 9550 can be cleaned in any place with the pressure water jet to remove all particles stuck in the filter. You may clean it in any place in your backyard or use tap water in your kitchen or bathroom.

  11. Real users, which is the smallest and lightest model? I’m afraid I won’t cope with a heavy robot full of water

    • Thank you very much for your question! Both brands – Polaris and Dolphin – are concerned about their robots’ weight. They try to produce as light and compact products as possible, because lots of users have similar doubts like yours. In fact, Dolphin wins this battle. Its Nautilus CC and CC Plus are the smallest, while the Nautilus CC and Dolphin Escape are also the lightest with their 14 pound bodies. Polaris offers robots the weight of which starts from 22 pounds.

  12. I have a large underground pool. My pool is not covered and we live in the country with a lot of dirt and trees. I am looking at the Dolphin Naulilus CC Supreme and the Polaris 9650iQ Sport Robotic. Which machine would you recommend.
    Thanks

  13. Hi! How much is the annual service of Dolphins? I mean which elements I need to replace regularly? Is it necessary to clean it specially and so on?

    • Thank you very much for your question! Usually, owners only need to regularly empty baskets and clean filters and scrubbers. These procedures can be done manually and do not require special (I mean paid) help from specialists. Thus, you can do it on your own for free. Baskets, filters and scrubbers last long, but you may need to replace them in case of breakage, which is a rare case.

  14. Dear Marcus! Thank you for the review. My kids and dog love the pool, but I’m worried whether power cords are safe enough? Electricity and water are not the best couple you know.

    • Thank you very much for your question! Manufacturers guarantee safety. Besides, cords are long enough, have swivel mechanisms and are protected against possible damage of isolation layers.
